COS’S SNARKITECTURE

COS’S SNARKITECTURE

A collaborative and experimental company based in Brooklyn, Snarkitecture have been creating some of the best interactive spaces since 2008 by fusing art and architecture. They focus on the viewer’s experience and memory, allowing direct contact with the surroundings and transforming the familiar into the extraordinary. Their clean and minimal aesthetic combined with their understanding of scale and space have allowed them to create a wide range of projects so far. Those include designs for the Calvin Klein Collection windows, runway shows for fashion label En Noir, and furniture for retail spaces like the Richard Chai store. In April, the company is premiering a collaboration with the Swedish fashion brand COS in Milan during Salone del Mobile.

Snarkitecture founders Daniel Arsham and Alex Mustonen met when they were both students at cooper union. The company was created when Arsham was commissioned, in 2006, for a Dior site-specific installation. He asked Mustonen for help and together they finished the window installations that sealed their future.

COS, the minimal Swedish brand known for its interesting cuts and neutral color palettes, Spring/Summer 2015 collection is the point of reference for this project. Arsham and Mustone have taken inspiration in the technical lightness and luminescence of the collection and will be transforming Spazia Erbe into an immersive and translucent cave. To create this tactile space they will be hanging thousands of floor length strips of layered white fabric from the ceiling. Visitors are encouraged to explore and interact with the installation as they make their was through the show.

Opening 14-19 April, 2015, the installation will be Snarkitecture’s debut in Milan.
