Back in January, Diors creative director Raf Simons said the brand would hold its cruise runway show in Los Angeles on May 9, but this is no longer the case. Dior has now confirmed that it will be moving its Resort Show to France, so au revoir L.A.! Palais Bulles (or the Bubble Palace in English) is located along the French Riviera. The futuristic and extravagant home of Pierre Cardin is located close to Cannes, which will begin its equally stylish annual film festival on May 13, 2015.
The conceptual Cardin house was designed by Hungarian architect Antti Lovag and was constructed roughly between 1975 and 1989. The house’s seaside location has magnificent views and a unique cave-like structure. Cardin worked beside Christian Dior himself in 1946 before launching his own couture house and bought the Palais Bulles in 1992. Cardin once described the house as “something of a gallery of living art” and “a little corner of paradise.”
Although the change in venue and time is very last minute tactically it does make sense. The Cannes film festival is set for just two days after the show, on May 13th. Moving the location closer to the film festival will more than likely bring a larger audience to the Resort show as most celebs attend the festival.
Dior, like many other powerhouses, has been taking its resort collections on the road since 2013. Their last show was held in Monaco and in 2014 Dior’s cruise show was held in New York at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Back in 2014, Tokyo hosted the brand’s pre-fall 2015 collection at Kokugikan, a sumo-wrestling arena that was turned into a snowy fantasy runway. Raf obviously didn’t want to disappoint us with his venue choice considering Louis Vuitton is showing at the Bob Hope Estate in Palm Springs, and Chanel is showing in Seoul, South Korea at Zaha Hadid’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), he certainly choose an amazing contender.
Fashion is all about the jet setting right? One week, you’re in New York City, the next, in London, then Milan, and finally in Paris. So it comes as no surprise that these brands are upping their game every season! Whatever the reason for Dior’s sudden change or heart, we know Raf and his team will kill it. And who is going to complain about a trip to the French Riviera?
Dior will show this seasons designs in South of France. The collection, which was set to show on May 9, will now be unveiled on May 11, and we can’t wait!
