French artist Sonia Delaunay and Russian artist Kazimir Malevich inspired the geometric patterns that were featured throughout Fausto Puglisi’s AW14-15 collection presented at Milan Fashion Week. Both founders of their own abstract geometric art movements (Delaunay cofounded Orphism and Malevich Suprematism), the artists managed to create names for themselves with their colorful paintings and unique techniques. But while Malevich almost exclusively experimented with his brush, Delaunay also experimented with fashion and created some quilts (it’s said that Paul Poiret declined a collaboration because he found her guilty of plagiarism).
Puglisi combined both artists into a collection of color-blocking featuring lilac, yellow, red, baby blue, green, bright red and black. The silhouette was typically Italian with form-hugging dresses, loosely pleaded skirts, and biker jackets – most of which were embellished with shiny golden studs, just like the shoes.
