Hong-Kong born John Rocha is known for his extravagant beading and appliqué and for often being inspired by the French “painter of black” Pierre Soulages. Rocha’s AW14-15 collection was no exception and more than half of his 26-look collection was all black. But despite of the uniform color the collection wasn’t dull: depth was added to the clothes via lacquered raffia lace patchworked with crochet and tweed. Organic shapes created out of tulle was added floral appliqués, which made the nature reference obvious – just as the bright red, forest green and pure white, which was a welcomed addition to the abundant amount of black.
