Before his performance at Joe’s Pub tonight, Kalup Linzy presents the video to ‘Lonely’ from his new album ‘Art Jobs and Lullabies.’
“Art Jobs and Lullabies is the follow up to my 2013 multi platform release Romantic Loner. Like its predecessor, it explores sexuality and spirituality from the perspective of a video artist who is also a singer. The album begins on an emotional tip, but then segues into humor and raunch. A feature is planned for 2015 as well as the completion of the video suite, which features selected tracks from the project. I am thinking about doing a remix EP with special guests. The video I am sharing here is “Lonely”. In this clip, my character Kaye performs for his creator and his creator’s creator. It was shot at The Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont this past October, when I was there as a visiting artist. I locked myself in the lecture hall/theatre one Saturday afternoon and just went for it. Me, my camera, a tripod, natural lighting mixed with house lighting, sweaters I purchased from a church rummage sale there, and a wig that I will lose in a river two days later.” – Kalup Linzy
