KORAKRIT ARUNANONDCHAI’S 2557

KORAKRIT ARUNANONDCHAI’S 2557

“In the summer of 2011 I thought I was going to become a monk, but then I decided to spend my time videoing my grandfather instead.

In 2012 (2555 on the Buddhist calender) I finished 2012–2555.

In the summer of 2012, I spent some time in the woods in Maine with a group of new friends.

I read Silpa Bhirasi
copied Duangjai Junsaonoi
and studied Chalermchai Kositpipat.

This produced 2556.

In the fall of 2012, I successfully moved to New York City to find myself Painting with history in a room filled with men with funny names.

In the summer of 2013, me and my twin brother, Korapat, went on a road trip together.

His favourite football team is Manchester United.

We ended up at this place.

I thought the road-trip ended when we got to Wat Rong Khun.

But somehow we found ourselves again back in New York City.

Manchester United won 3 championships in 1999.

Despite the fact that they are not doing so good now.

They are still Korapat’s favorite soccer team.

3 is a good number.

I like the name United and the fact that their logo combines the colors red and yellow which mean very different things now in my country than they used to in 2004.

It has been an interesting 3 years of my life and I would like to tell you all about it.

So here is 2557 (Painting with history in a room filled with men with funny names 2).” – Korakrit Arunanondchai

Korakrit Arunanondchai’s 2557 (Painting with history in a room filled with men with funny names 2) is on display at Carlos Ishiwaka Studios until November 1st.
