When viewing Mark Hadjipateras work you are entering into the artist’s imagination, and witnessing the culmination of years of developing a personal and style. From June 4, 2015 to July 10, 2015 Denise Bibro Fine Art is home to the new solo exhibition titled Habitat.
Mark Hadjipateras was born and raised in London. He now lives between New York and Athens. He studied at Hammersmith School of Art-London before attending Central Saint Martins in London.
Hadjipateras’s has been practicing his work for more than three decades. For the past 15 years, city-goers will have seen his mosaics on the 28th Street Broadway subway station. In 2000, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of the N.Y.C. commissioned Hadjipateras to create a permanent installation comprising of 40 mosaics for the 28th Street of the Broadway line subway.
The exhibition space for the show Habitat is occupied by more than 50 grayish-black-stained cast aluminum elements of limitless variation, all representing different familiar shapes.
As well as the sculptures on display his bold and iconic black and white canvases, all of which are recent works made in 2015, will be showcased too. The images include strong and familiar isolated forms that are both fascinating and unusual in shape. The oil paintings have ritualistic quality and the geometric shapes recall architectural elements and mechanisms. These canvases are closely associated to the sculptures in this exhibition. The forms, rendered in black chiaroscuro, are equally established, definite and full of intrigue and wonder.
Mark Hadjipateras’ work will be on show from June 4, 2015 to July 10, 2015 at Denise Bibro Fine Art in Chelsea New York.
