MERT ALAS AND MARCUS PIGGOTT’S FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION

MERT ALAS AND MARCUS PIGGOTT’S FIRST SOLO EXHIBITION

If you told everyone at VISIONAIRE that the men who privately captured the most sexy and intimate moments of the world’s most famous celebrities would eventually publicly sell their art, we would urge the entire world to get in line. It’s happening. Celebrated photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott are staging their first-ever solo show and will have a selection of their works available for purchase. In the business of fashion photography, very few have the power to create other worlds for the viewer…especially when working for advertisement. Mert and Marcus are a part of this small community of visual pioneers, and now you have the chance to own an original.

For over 20 years, the duo has delivered iconic and enchanting works for several fashion publications. Our entire 52 PRIVATE issue featured the work of the photographers showing men and women (such as Naomi Campbell, Jamie Dornan and Scarlett Johannsson) not just at their sexiest, but also at their most personal. The images the duo produced for this particular issue went against the relentlessly glossy imagery they are known for. Instead, they were gritty, encompassing the fleeting and rare moment with the prominence of the subject. Along with 52 PRIVATE, contributions have been made to the issues 27 MOVEMENT, 28 BIBLE, 29 WOMAN, 31 BLUE, 42 SCENT, 53 SOUND, 58 SPIRIT RTW AND 60 RELIGION. Color saturation, polished textures and surrealism are the words that come to mind when speaking of Mert and Marcus. “Obviously, we are here to sell a product — you can’t disguise that fact — but the trick is to say that message in an unconventional way, where it doesn’t become just about that sale,” Alas told Time in 2003. This unconventional effort is where the artistry lies for the photographers. You almost forget that some of their work is advertisement.

Now you’ll be able to hang powerful images of Cara Delevingne, Guinevere van Seenus, Kate Moss, Karen Elson, Lara Stone and Natalia Vodianova in your home. These are just a few of the women that will be displayed at the show. The exhibition will offer views of photographs taken between 2001 and 2014. Nine color photographs and nine black and white ones will be for sale.

The show will take place at the Mayfair HQ of London auction house, Phillips, in collaboration with Art Partner. Save up and plan ahead now because the going rate for these timeless pieces are not your average amounts.
