For his folio, which now makes up the invitation at Saint Laurent Paris, Hedi Slimane chose Californian artist John Baldessari. The 82-year-old artist has become famous for his conceptual art, which is often created from appropriated images. While he started out as a painter when he emerged in the 1960s, he completely abandoned his preferred medium in the 1970s to focus on photographic images. He’s considered one of the most important American artists and has received 15 awards throughout his career as well as three honorary doctor degrees.
Not only was Baldessari the inspiration for the glittery and sequined collection, he also designed three of the featured dresses. Made completely from sequins, the dressed fitted well into the collection, which had sparkly shoes, polka dots, and sequin tops and skirts.
