The tech capital of the world aka Silicon Valley is setting out to prove that its not all hoodies, sneakers, and the occasional black turtleneck: coming this May is Silicon Valley Fashion Week! The three-day tech-meets-fashion event will take place from May 12 2015-May 14 2015 at The Chapel on Valencia Street in San Francisco.
Chris Lindland is the man behind the concept of SFW and founder and CEO of Betabrand, which plays host to the event. “Now and then I encounter fashion shows here and most of them seem to be, I’ll gently say, they’re a little bit like knockoffs of New York, and they’re not focused on what San Francisco is so great at, which is specifically technology,” says Lindland.
Unlike the schedule for New York, Milan, Paris, or London, each night in San Francisco will focus on a different theme. First comes movement and lighting that draws inspiration from the festival world and LED-enabled clothing. Then the following night will focus on wearable technology and the closing night will feature items from crowd-funded fashion designers.
Style.com may have brought a street-style drone to fashion week, but Betabrand will use drones in lieu of models. “It may sound awkward that Silicon Valley is having fashion week, but the reality is that wearable clothing if the future and hugely affecting people’s identity and life,” says Lindland.
Sadly if you’re looking for a ticket, you’re out of luck as Betabrand Silicon Valley Fashion Week sold out in just a matter of days!
