Today, the Metropolitan Museum of Art launched a video series, “The Artist Project, which features 100 invited artists discussing their favorite piece from the historic institution’s vast collection.
Highlights from the first season include George Condo, Nick Cave, Mickalene Thomas, Tom Sachs, and Cory Arcangel. Of course one of our favorite is of our Visionaire 64 collaborator John Baldessari. The 83-year-old Cali-native is seen talking about Philip Guston’s 1973 Stationary Figure, which Baldessari describes as Guston’s attempt to seem like a “dumb artist.” “I guess it comes down to van Gogh’s painting of a pair of old boots,” Baldessari says in the video. “You don’t have to paint a cathedral. You just have to be an interesting painter.”
