Today, Visionaire celebrates 25 years publishing. We published our first issue Visionaire 1 SPRING on April 1, 1991.
“We used to work with a printer downtown. They were cheaper than the other printers we called. We were worried they would have a problem with some of the nudity in our issues, but when we went on press we realized they specialized in XXX hard-core porn,” our co-founder Cecilia Dean reminisces.
James, Cecilia and Stephen sent the first issue to New York times and the paper wrote about it the following day. Since it was pre-internet, the trio wondered how to take orders and decided to simply put down James’s home phone number. He woke up that morning to a phone ringing constantly with people who wanted to buy the issue.
