VISIONAIRE’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY BOOK

VISIONAIRE’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY BOOK

The future of visual culture begins with this collector’s anthology showcasing twenty-five years of iconic art, fashion, and design content from renowned New York-based publication, Visionaire.

As Visionaire looks forward, it takes a moment to look back with this 25-Year Book.

Two art school friends met a teenage model back in 1980s NYC. By 1991, they had embarked on an experiment-turned-adventure. Visionaire has taken the shape of everything from a leather-bound portfolio to 12-inch vinyl records to a collection of dolls. Placed in critical context with intimate reflections by contributors, a prized collection of 1,453 images selected from 65 issues produced by an astounding cast of artists, photographers and designers, delivers a rich panorama of over two decades of media and fashion revolution from the perspective of independent publishing.

Original commentary by cofounders Cecilia Dean and James Kaliardos provides unprecedented access to a pivotal New York scene and the creative life behind Visionaire as it anticipated and shaped the fashion zeitgeist, propelling emerging voices and exceptional content while challenging the limits of print media with every issue. This volume delivers an essential piece of contemporary fashion and media history and traces the shape of things to come.

This 472-page book of images includes an introduction and essays featuring interviews with Mario Testino, Riccardo Tisci, Marina Abramovic, and many more.

Essays by Pierre Alexandre de Looz and Martin J. Solomon. De Looz is the co-founder and editor-at-large for Pin-Up magazine, the N YC contributing editor of 032c magazine, co-founder of Document Journal, and teaches at Pratt in the Department of Humanities and Media Studies.
