The weekend of November 18-21, Visionaire has been invited to display its entire collection at the opening of the new art initiative Warehouse421 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Warehouse421 is a new cultural destination in Abu Dhabi’s port area of Mina Zayed, in which transformed warehouses become a platform for artistic expression, understanding, and further development of the UAE’s creative community. As the primary exhibition venue, Warehouse421 will showcase a roster of gallery and artist shows setting the larger stage for creativity throughout the city.
During the weekend’s opening, audiences are invited to explore their world through the launch event of Warehouse421 which will present a program of national, regional and international artists, designers and musicians through exhibitions, workshops, performances and cuisine.
Three key exhibitions will be previewed at this time, presenting themes of memory and transformation, two elements which play a strong part in the growth and establishment of Abu Dhabi. Through the exhibition, Lest We Forget: Emirati Family Photographs 1950-1999 the UAE’s history is revisited through a series of never before seen photographs dating back from the 1950s.
A fourth exhibition Art: Process & Practice will showcase works from the Salama bint Hamdan Emerging Artists Fellowship program presenting individual procedures of creating and making art.
Dr. Michele Bambling, Creative Director of ‘Lest We Forget’ – a pioneering educational and creative enterprise recently launched under the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation – says: “Lest We Forget: Emirati Family Photographs 1950-1999, the exhibition, and its accompanying book and archive, present a unique exploration of Emirati vernacular photographs through memory and creative expression.”
