13 SEVEN DEADLY SINS was designed as seven individual volumes, one per sin. The booklets were then housed in a slipcase, a format reminiscent of children’s Bible books. Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin contribute for the first time. Their decadent style and ironic approach accord perfectly with the theme. We were surprised how the Sins seemed to bring out the best in artists who contributed to this issue. Mary Ellen Mark depicts Lust. Wrath features the work of Mario Sorrenti and of the photojournalist James Nachtwey. Barbara Kruger and Jean-Philippe Delhomme both insisted on Greed, and Pride came in the form of photos taken from years of New York City Gay Pride parades.
